604e UREI horn mod?

I now have in my possession, something marketed as 'big red' monitors.

- baffles aka motorboards that are a bit hackneyed.
- Mastering Labs Crossovers with seq. S/N
- 604e Super Duplex's, with UREI (non-foamed) HF horns.

What's the 'earliest' model 604 known to have UREI horns mounted to them by UREI?
Perhaps someone else has a simialr 604e for comparison's sake?
The examples that I have do not have the fit+finish that I might expect... unless the UREI conversion(s) were a bit sloppy?

Addendum (edited): Forgot to mention - the time period of the UREI horn conversions seems (seems) to be ca. 1977+, with discussion of the 604g, based on net/forum research.
The 'e' while it might have been accurate for a 'big red', may not have been accurate for a UREI conversion - thus perhaps these are someone's project... instead of something authentic?

"Big Reds" with UREI horns would be someones project, as they were totally different companies. That doesn't mean bad by itself though.

Real Big Reds would have the std Altec horns. Only UREIs used UREIs.

Can you see if the Urei horn uses the altec throat? If so would you be willing to post a few close up pictures of the horn and maybe take casting for me pretty pretty please. I have been wanting to get enough info to draw and build one of those horns forever and I am more than happy to post drawings here so the whole world can use them. I?ve often thought that they would make an easy to build upgrade replacement for egg crates.

Hi martyh45, I can't commit to casting them right at this time, but would be interested in helping. I assume that it would require taking them apart to do so. If so I'd need to know more about the process. Any general pitfalls and how to remove/replace the fabric cover (assuming that is how the horn bolts are accessed - e.g. they are visible on the mantaray versions, but not this one without removing the cloth patches).

What would be used to do the casting?

In this case, it appears that the original multicell was hacked off (for lack of better term) and the urei glued on. This aspect is what I am wondering about (why I've asked for input from others with similar models).

Will try to get some more detailed pics of the conversion/connection posted and we can discuss from there.
